FAQ
Am I registered properly?
To be fully registered to race in USSA Central Division, you must complete 2 registrations, one to USSA and one to your local region. To confirm that your USSA membership has been processed you can search the member lookup on the USSA webpage. USSA Online registration is instant. Local region registrations are sent from the regional offices in the fall and posted to their websites. If you have not received the forms, figure out what region you are in (found on the about page or in the rule book, click the link to the left) and contact that region through their website--linked at the bottom of of the page on this website.
J4 (12 years old) and younger athletes are eligible for USSA Youth membership only.
How do I sign up for a race?
When you register with your local region, you will also be registering for the regional races in that region. Special events like the Mid Am Series, J3/J4 Championships, J4/J5/J6 Finale and club fundraisers require a separate entry. For entry to special events please refer to the ‘Major Competitions’ section of the rule book.
What if I want to race outside of the Central Division?
All out of division FIS race entries are controlled by the Central office. The new intents online system will manage the quotas and entries to events out of the Central Division. Please note the deadlines at that website when intending to enter.
All out of division USSA race entries are controlled by the Central office. Athletes wanting to race in any out of division event must fill out a National Meet Entry form (Out of Division Intent to Race Form) and return it to the Central office by the deadlines. Oct 21 for all Nov. & Dec. races, Dec. 1 for all Jan. races, Jan 1 for all Feb. races, Feb. 1 for all Mar. & April races. Out of Division Intent to race forms can be found on the Resources Page of this website. Please fill the form out properly and send electronically to USSA Central Division Manager Brewster McVicker at: bmcvicker@ussa.org.
What are my points?
Your USSA and FIS points may be found on the USSA website www.ussa.org.
Why did my points go up over the summer?
Every fall, all competitor’s points are given an adder. This is done primarily to realign USSA points with FIS points for the top racers. The adders are the same for every racer, so most athletes’ national rankings are unaffected.
Do I need to register with FIS to compete in MidAms?
Yes! If you think you may qualify for a MidAm during the year you MUST register for a FIS number through USSA before the closing date of the points list to be able to compete after that list becomes valid.
Why did my FIS points go up in the middle of the year?
FIS points are valid for only 15 months. For example, if you earned your best 2 results last December, and you don’t get a result through April, in the following list, those results will no longer count and your new points will be an average of the next best results earned since then. In addition, note that FIS re-zeroes each list, meaning a small adder may be applied to the points of all FIS athletes for each new points list during the season.
Where can I find recent race results?
You can find USSA and FIS race results from the current and past few seasons on the USSA website
How do I improve my officials certification?
You must be a USSA member coach or official for official’s certification. Education clinics are usually held in the fall. The Calendar page has information on local clinics or contact your region administrator or Alpine Official chairman for more information. USSA Alpine Official Study guides are available here
